What's a good flywheel and clutch combo?
My throw-out bearing is making noise so I figured I should probibly do everything else while i'm in there. I plan on leaving the motor at pretty much stock power level (I,H,E.). The cheapest price while still maintaining trouble free quality and close to stock drivability is my goal(and gaining a little bit of performance while i'm at it). I found this set up on ebay...is it any good? I've heard of exedy but not "fidanza". And is 7.5 lbs. too light for a flywheel?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/EXEDY...spagenameZWDVW
Thanks for any advice.

Is there a reason this kit is so cheap?

I see in this auction it has an exedy flywheel which is steel and the ring gear is machined onto the flywheel insted of pressed like the aluminum fidanza one...it's 9.5 lbs. instead of 7.5 lbs. on the fidanza one. Is this something that I should consider. It's only $50 more for this set up. I would like to maintain stock reliability. Has anyone ever expierence any problems with an aluminim flywheel? Is 9.5 lbs. any kind of a weight savings over stock?

the stock flywheel is somewhere upwards of 18 lbs, so there is deffinatly a weight savings there. there are also aftermarket flywheels around 12 lbs for a more "stock-like" drivability.

Yea, when people go with a mild street setup, the choice is usually for a 9.5lb flywheel. Many say that 7.5lb is too light. Exedy is reputable, the seller must get them in bulk, because they are always good and cheap. My buddy bought that auction for is D16Y8 Si. Hasn't installed it yet though. never heard anything bad as of yet.

Now i'm trying to decide between the 9.5 lb Exedy, or the 12.5 lb ACT. I did a search on "flywheel" and read most of the threads. It sounds like the 7.5 lb Fidanza and the 8.8 lb ACT are going to be too light and not as easy to drive. I've read in that search to stay between 10-12 lbs to remain streetable. But the two that i'm trying to decide between now are just out of that "sweet spot" range.
I've decided to go with the Exedy stage 1 clutch but I don't know which flywheel to pick. Both are about the same price and quality.

I have the ACT 8.8lb fw and it's easy as hell to drive daily. Just my .02, almost anyone who actually has a flywheel that light will tell you the same thing.

What's the biggest advantage you feel with your flywheel other than the weight saving?

Derek, what's up man. I don't know if you remember me or not, me and a friend of mine Andy had a pair of white 3rd gen LS tegs. Anyway, my throw-out bearing has been going bad for a while now, i've been delaying it for as long as possible. Now, this morning my car won't go into 5th and reverse. I know that has nothing to do with the bearing, but now I have to fix the problem. Figured since i'm having the tranny pulled out might as well upgrade the clutch and flywheel. I think i'm leaning twards the Exedy 9.5 lb one, i'm sure it won't be too much of a pain to drive. Now i'm starting to eyeball the OBX LSD...damn this could turn out to be expensive.

2 things because I can't choose just one (it's one of my favorite mods):
1. Shifting up and down is so much faster and more fun. The revs shoot up and drop off quickly so it's easy to heel and toe, upshift quickly, etc.
2. The car feels much more "sprightly" in the lower gears (1st and 2nd). The acceleration difference is quite big in 1st gear especially, and at all rpms. Gets me out of the hole in auto-x really quickly!
I absolutely love it... if I could go lighter I would!

Hey what's up Jason... don't worry about the fw and daily driving, it's a cinch. I would HIGHLY recommend an LSD especially if you are autocrossing and your class allows it. That might be my very favorite mod of all. Although autocross is mostly about the driver, it's not a complete coincidence that I had only won 1 autocross before in my life in the previous 3 years (in Novice class), and since installing the ITR LSD this time last year I've won 15 of them.
