INCLEMENT WEATHER ON this side of the Atlantic ocean threw a turquoise parakeet off course today and a note it was holding in its beak fell into the INQUIRER's back garden.

The contents of the note appear to reveal future plans for future Intel desktop processors right up until 2005.

By then, according to the note, Intel will be able to deliver 10.20GHz desktop CPUs codenamed "Nehalem" and produced using 65 nanometer technology.

If Intel manages to migrate away from the 90 nanometer technology it will introduce towards the end of this year, by then the "Prescott" core will deliver at least 5.20GHz using the 800MHz system bus.

The immediate successor to Prescott after it tops out at 5.20GHz will be the "Tejas" core, also produced on a 90 nanometer process and delivering 5.60GHz using a 1066MHz system bus. That's slated to start appearing towards the end of 2004.

Tejas will increase in steady increments which appear to be 6GHz, 6.40GHz, 6.80GHz, 7.20GHz, 7.60GHz, 7GHz, 8.40GHz, 8.80GHz and topping out at 9.20GHz.

The first Nehalem is supposed to appear at 9.60GHz before Intel succeeds in its goal to produce a 10GHz+ chip, the Nehalem, and using a 1200MHz front side bus. µ

that's right on parr with the current pc law of processor speed increase ( learned in a computer science class). The rate of processor speeds generally ~doubles every year. It's going to be crazy. Eventually they're going to be manufacturing cpu's using genetic materials such as membranes and cells. Hopefully by then nanobots will have been developed and will help our human brains further explore that <90 percent of our undiscovered potential.

haha man I saw the nanobot technology forecasts in a Dateline special. It was very intrigueing to say the least. They are microscopic sub-fiber sized 'robots' that will interact with our brains and speed up the thinking process (they look like little microscopic submarines that travel throughout our brain tissue). Through a software programmed hardware interface, we'll be able to do things similar to what was seen in the Matrix (ie, learn languages in minutes...learn entire college course material in an hour). Very cool stuff.

i dont remember anything quite that slow...unless those black and white mac's i used back in grade school were that speed? i dunno..i didn't get a computer until 2000..so i didn't really care about them till recently...i've caught up to the times though..know more then most people do...so i'm happy lol

kinda neat though..i'm running a 400 and a 550 right now..and the 550 is just now to the point where it can't play games anymore..and so i'm in need of a computer again...speeds are already over 3ghz...gonna hit 10 by the time i need another computer...just nuts

imagine how our kids will look back at our ancient things and say..10ghz?! are you nuts!! thats so slow..how could you deal with that lol

my first pc was some non pentium. intel inside windows 3.1 then i mess it up and my second pc was a pentium 60mhz. heheh

but i heard somewhere a new cpu is coming out that is like 5 cpu on 1 chip. which is like 100 or 200 times faster than a p4 2.8ghz or something? i dunno.
