But what i'm wondering about and if anyone can help me is if Acer is reliable enough for a good 3-4 years...
In the past, i've been a cheap@ss and have purchased eMachines and those have screwed up on me within two or so years...i'm guessing Acer is a notch above eMachines but are they decent enough?
I've heard they have a much better reputation overseas and are just starting to gain grounds in the US, but anyone have anything good or bad to say or any experience to share about Acer?
I briefly had that exact machine from Best Buy. It seemed like it was built pretty good, and it ran pretty damn quick. 2 reasons I didn't keep it, because I wanted something more powerful, and I didn't like the fact that the only harddrive was partitioned into two halves. This Gateway I have now, the HDD has a large 310GB partition, and the remaining 10GB is partitioned for the recovery drive. But if you're not going to use that Acer for anything too powerful, such as gaming, then it should suit you just fine.
anyways, i'm not a gamer at all, i'll probably just get a ps3 or a wii for kicks and giggles later on but i've never done any gaming on my computers...
what i'll end up doing is some java programming and .net programming...
i'm definitely looking for something with 2 gigs of memory and a decent processor...
so basically, can anyone else as well vouch for the quality and name brand of Acer?
i'm just sick of dealing with emachines junk and brands like it...
I have the Accerpower F2 desktop and have had it for 3 years and have had ZERO problems with it. I also purchased an Accer Aspire 3618 laptop last year and have had no problems with it either. Accer may not be the biggest name on the block, but they have been the most reliable that I have owned and I have owned Gateway, Dell, HP, and Compaq. I would not recomend Dell. Their CPU's suck as do their customer service.

sounds good...
i was also checking hoover's and noticed that they're actually a pretty big company...#3 in the desktop/laptop biz behind dell and hp btw...
i think i'm going to bite the bullet and go for it...
I love Acer becuase of it's function & form. I own 2 ASPIRES and they both work very well. However, on my first Aspire, the sound doesn't work at times, and I devised a method of flipping it upside down and back around--it works, but that's my fault becuase I never returned/RMA'd it.
I would recommend Acer, because they are all strong machines. You can game old classics like QuakeWorld (which I do at times) and no problems at all. Aspires are more desktop replacement status though, versus the TravelMate
