anybody with an amd 2100+ xp or higher have temps over...

well after fliplyricist and some other guyz helped me out, i managed to get cpu temps between 52-55 C on my amd 2100+ xp. do you guyz think that is NORMAL? i did a research for my processor and the maximum cpu temp. for my 2100+ xp is 90 C. Do you guyz think i'm at a safe range? i heard something about how if your cpu temp is hotter than normal, the lifespan would decrease a shit load!

they're acceptable temps. I don't think I'd start overclocking with temps like that, but as they are, not too bad. I'm assuming this is under load as well.

as mentioned, those would be acceptable (though a little high) temps for a palamino core xp2100 (which I'm assuming yours is). You DEFINITELY do not want to get into the 60's...mid 50's is pushing it. Have you touched the heatsink while you're doing an intensive application like gaming for about an hour straight? Your motherboard temp. reading could be off...try touching the heatsink after an hour or so of gaming...see if it's warm to the touch or extremely hot. If so, you may need to upgrade to a better heatsink/and or cpu fan.

your better quality mother boards have temperature sensors on board that you can read in the bios or with a program like mother board monitor

Bah. I order a cooler master as well. It was suppose to be quieter than most. As well it was like 8bucks and I already had a fan and heatsink , but I figured Id get a new one since the old one became caked nasty....

But yeah I turn on my comp and it sounds like an f1 spooling up....

As to why just a minute ago I took apart my comp and cleaned it up so it would quiet down.

-- Also i powered up my old 400mhz p2. That thing is silent , im kinda amazed. It makes me want to get a new quiet fan....

Anyone know any good fans that are powerful small and quiet. This shit is driving me insane. 3-4months of whirring makes you coocoo for cocoa puffs.

If I remeber right, you're running a P4, right? Getting a top quality heatsink makes all the difference. Until very recently, the SLK-800 was top of the pack and that's what I run. For a fan, I use a 30 cfm zalman fan that's only 21dB. And I get very good cooling under full load. The SLK-900 is now available and gives even better results. The slk-800 can be had for $30 and the slk-900 for $50. the SLK-900 can bolt directly onto a p4 (if your board has the 4 mounting holes around the processor), while the slk-800 would require an adapter. It's a bit expensive, but for the continued sanity, it is SO worth it.

here's a link to a review of the SLK-900:
http://www.overclockers.com/articles698/

And the SLK-800:
http://www.overclockers.com/articles600/

And the cheapest place I know of for these things as well as fans:
http://www.svcompucycle.com

If you think you want that slk-800, I can find a link for the adapter, it'd just take a bit of digging.

edit - oh yeah, if you want to see a ranking of the available heatsinks:
http://www.overclockers.com/articles373/

The lower the c/w the better it is, just look down half way to get to the air cooling die simulator results. With very good heatsinks, you can afford to put a low cfm/db fan on 'em without sacrificing too much performance.

Well im kinda stuck on what to do. I noticed my 423 pin chip is weird. So i need the outdated and hard to find 423 pin p4 stuff...?

I really only found this. Hows this look over the coolermaster. Seems like a smaller fan , but better heatsink. Should be quiet and perform just as well.

What do you think. Can I mount just another fan on my exsisting heatsink. Is the heatsink really important , should I look for something really crazy?

wow that slk-900 looks Godly. I've been running an HHC-001 heatpipe for awhile...great looking pure copper heatsink...but the fan is unbearably loud.

I think I'll go the slk-800 w/ quiet 80mm fan route when I pick up the thoroughbred 1700.
