Nyceguy17, you'll have much better luck with IRC.
here's how to use it...
first, download and install mIRC:
http://www.mirc.com/get.html
when you open mIRC, this little box will pop up with a picture of this guy and a mIRC logo, click it. then this little window will appear with lots of tabs and options, scroll tabs, etc. above the "Connect to IRC Server" button, it'll have a scroll menu, I usually choose an EFnet server located in the US. you can try DALnet too, but connections to those servers can be less stable. now click "connect to irc server". once you are connected, a new little window will pop up listing some basic "channels". channels are bascially chat rooms, however some channels aren't just built for chat, they have users in the channels that set up their computers as servers. these servers are called "f-serves" (file-servers).
okay, now that you're connected, double click any one of those channels listed in that little window that appeared after you connected. once you are in a new channel, type
/list and in a couple seconds a new window will open up and thousands upon thousands of channels will begin to be listed. this is mIRC listing every channel that exists on say, EFnet, or DALnet, etc. After a little bit, the listing will come to a stop and you can right click on one of the channel list's text and choose to have them sorted by name, users, or topic. I usually sort them by name.
before proceeding, you'll need to set your copy of mIRC to auto-get files, go to File, options, and set everything as I have set in the pictures below...
now you can browse the names of all the channels, and search for channels like "moviez", "new mp3s", "cartoon episodes". find a channel that has a good amount of people in it and seems to have what you are looking for. double click that channel and you will enter it. once inside the channel, usually the people who have fserves with files available for people to download, will advertise their fserve. they do this by running a little bot that makes them say a message in the channel every couple of minutes or so. these messages are generally in all kinds of colors.
there is a skill that you will develop to read these fserve ad messages. when an fserve ad message comes up, it will list the name of the fserve, the trigger (more about that soon), the spaces available on the fserve, queues, the record speed someone reached when d.l.ing something, and sometimes what they are hosting is mentioned too. this is what it may look like when you first enter a channel......

notice that the user "markapple" has an fserve up. the trigger to enter his fserve is
lots of vids. you can see that he is allowing 2 people to download simultaneously from him. he has also set 10 queue slots. this means that up to 10 people can get in line to have a file sent to them once the people in front of them get their files.
onto how to get the good stuff you came to the channel for...
highlight the trigger and then paste that into the the bar where you can type messages to the channel (located at the bottom of the channel window). *note* when you highlight text in mIRC, it is automatically put onto the clipboard, thus eliminating the need to ctrl+c after highlighting). okay, so now you have the trigger in the type field. enter it. after a few seconds, a little window will pop up "mIRC DCC Chat". click the accept button. you will be taken to a new window in mIRC, which is the fserve.
for example, this is similar to what you might see when you are in the fserve....
DCC Chat session

<Bow> mIRC v6.01 File Server
<Bow> Use: cd dir ls get read help exit
<Bow> [\]
after this comes up, type
dir and then enter it.
this is similar to what will come up....
<Bow> [\*.*]
<Bow> 411vm.skateboarding.51.svcd.dvdrip-res.mpg 760 mb
<Bow> art.bars.subtitles.and.seagulls.svcd.dvdrip-res.mpg 713 mb
<Bow> black.label.presents.label.kills.vcd-res.mpg 516 mb
<Bow> cky - landspeed.mpg 495 mb
<Bow> cky2k vcd.mpg 438 mb
<Bow> cky3.mpg 447 mb
<Bow> rds.fsu.2002.dvd-svcd-res.mpg 722 mb
<Bow> rds.fsu.2002.dvdextras-svcd-res.mpg 165 mb
these are all the files on the fserve. once you decide which one you would like to get, highlight the file name.
for instance...
rds.fsu.2002.dvd-svcd-res.mpg
now type
get rds.fsu.2002.dvd-svcd-res.mpg
*note, I mentioned to highlight the name so you won't have to type it out*
enter it.
there is usually a wait and you will be placed into a queue slot. if you did everything correctly up to this point, this is similar to what the fserve will say back to you after you request the download of the file you want...
rds.fsu.2002.dvd-svcd-res.mpg
<markapple> Queuing rds.fsu.2002.dvd-svcd-res.mpg(722Mb). It has been placed in queue slot #2, it will send when sends are available.
once the people queued for download before you finish their downloads, yours will begin. all you have to do is keep mIRC open and stay in the channel.
also, there might be a little difference between some fserves, like when you enter "dir" to view the stuff it has. sometimes the files won't come up in a list right away. sometimes there might be a few messages in bold. like...
MOVIES
PICTURES
ETC
if you wanna view what movies the fserve has, type
cd MOVIES and enter it. then proceed with
dir, etc, etc.
if you have any problems, feel free to post back.
