I heard that it completely blows the geforce 4 ti4600 away. That's going to be one crazy video card. I bet the next generation of gaming systems will now also think of using ATI and maybe even Intel since they've stepped up and decided to make quality video cards that are meant to rival NVIDIA.

yea, that's what they CLAIMED when the radeon 8500 was coming out...
the 9700 does beat the the ti4600, but it does NOT blow it away. It will stay on the top for a short time though as later this year GeForce 5 is being released.
this is going to be one nice video card. the one drawback i can see is that useds with Windows 98 will not be able to use this card or the Radeon 9000 Pro because ATI decided not to write drivers for that OS.

Well, this will be ATI's chance to take a lead in the video card market. The only reason NVIDIA can charge so much and seem dominant is because everyone is rushing to develop new technology that will cause a tech race. Also, Intel is joining the game and they will become a forced to be reckoned with. Many more years of experience over NVIDIA, however, they will also be entering a new realm of technology, so who knows.
Yea, I agree that NVIDIA is better now, but we'll never know until the product is released, which I hope is soon. My friend told me that it will be in the 400 dollar range.
Well, granted the ATI might perform better... but, I already have the ti4600 and that card does the job exceptionally. For my needs, it's more than adequate, so I doubt I'll run out and by the ATI just becuase it outdoes the gforce 4 by a bit....
maybe if Ididn't have the ti4600, and i was looking for a card, I'd look into that ati product.
Keep in mind tho'.... I went from an NVidia Riva TNT card to the GForce4 ti4600... so that's quite a big step in performance for me.... so I'm still excited over my purchase
That's an awesome leap in uprading, hehe. Yup, this tech war will be good for our wallets. I'm currently running on a Geforce2 MX400 and I need an extra video card for my other computer so I was planning on buying it. That's why I brought it up.

from the inquirer..
"The card will have support for 16X anisotropic filtering and will be able to deliver 400 million polygons/s, which, even to a spod like me, seems to be verging on overkill. If we assume that we need 24 FPS you will be able to get 16,6 million polygons per frame. That is amazing number, if we may say so. Today's top fancy demos use less than one million, so you can imagine how good this card will be.
Performance-wise, as we said you will be able to see 15,000 3DMarks on a P4 platform, where Geforce 4 would not give more than 12,000. We are talking about non-overclocked systems, and recognise you can get even more with faster Pentiums and overclocked cards."
from [h]ard)ocp:
Benchmarks:
UT2003 - 1600x1200x32; 4XAA; 16XAF – The Radeon 9700 doused the Ti4600 by about 25%. Now get a load of this, that is with the GF4 running without AA or AF. With 4XAA turned on the Ti4600 was crushed by nearly 300%. The Radeon 9700 simply made quick work of the Ti4600 under this UT2003 demo.
3DMark2001 – Using the default benchmark at 10x7 with no AA nor AF turned on, the Radeon 9700 exceeded the Ti4600’s score by approximately 20%. Where most of the score boost came from was the Nature demo as the Radeon 9700 was posting frame rates of right at 200% of the Ti4600 numbers.
Comanche 4 Demo - 1600x1200x32; 4XAA; 16XAF – Again, approximately 25% ahead of the Ti4600 with the Ti running no AA or AF compared to the full on settings of the Radeon 9700.
Last, but certainly not least, a benchmark we don’t use as it is made by NVIDIA, tweaked by NVIDIA, and configured for NVIDIA hardware, the Chameleon demo. At 1600x1200, the Radeon 9700 doubled the Ti4600 scores.
i'm working on more stuff..i found some benchmarks of the 9700 in a diff language..i'll hook ya up when i find it again
