Blue Screen of Death!!!!

Yeah last night was a bad night. While watching a movie from my external hard drive last night a friend came in so i paused it. While it was paused say 5 minutes the screen saver came on. About two pictures into the screen saver the dreaded blue screen of death came up. Stating a fatal error and that it was dumping physical memory. Pissed off and teary eyed i tried to restart the computer several times but to no avail. All i got was a message that the operating system was not found. Then my bro told me to take out the battery and let it sit. No power. I tried it and it came on went to windows but froze and did the blue screen again. WTF??? Help. Whats my next step? Its a good computer and never gave me any problems besides the freaking dvd drive going in and out. Guru's i need your help!!!! I'm in iraq and its all i have to do on the little off time i have.

id pull the hard drive out, copy your data onto another drive andthen try and reinstall windows. (or try and recover it, but id do a fresh install)

then if you get the blue screen again; id look at the video card.

how old is the computer or laptop. make model????

well what is weird is i was playing with it and it came back up in safe mode. My thinking was that it was something to do with the last three programs i installed. ANYDVD6.5, CloneDVD2.3, and Itunes 7.5. So i removed all of them among some other small things that were useless, and my computer is like 40% faster and no blue screen. My bro said it could have been the anydvd cause his viao didn't like it either.
