Which brand hard drive would you pick? Im looking at about 160-180GB of space @7200RPM. This is mainly going to be for storing video, songs, and some games. I want a quite hard drive and a friend of mine told me to go with seagate if I want a quite one. Are seagate hard drive any good? At first I was leaning to hitachi hard drives because they are same company as IBM and I would think that they are good. But he also told me that IBM had a series of problems back than.
So right now I just wanna hear what everyone's input on hard drive.

I know that guy paid $199.99 for the HD but I also know there is a rebate on it and he took it so he is selling it for $121. After the mail in rebate he paid $89 or so. Do you think its worth it? That is like giving the guy $30 for doing the rebate for you. I mean I would love to pay the full $199 for the HD and wait for the rebate but I dont have $200 something to pay up front.

I currently go with WD exclusively. I'm not immune to change, but they currently provide the fastest IDE drives (The SE versions)(I haven't checked on the serial ones in months), they're essentially silent (I have 3 between the two computers in my room and can't hear them at all), and they have an absolute killer customer service. My housemate's drive went bad, and they sent him a new drive immediatly and gave him a 30 day period to return the old drive.

Right now im using a 60 gig Western digital for windows, games, etc. and then I have my system partitioned onto another harddrive for my d: drive which is a Maxtor 20 gig that I use for all my videos, MP3's and other downloads. I think if I were to buy any other drives I would use maxtor or WD just because ive never had any problems with them.
Well I currently have 2 WD Raptors in RAID 0 on my setup and all i can say is wow. This is the absolute fastest you can get without going scsi or have more drives in the array.
Currently I'm using Western Digital. I've done a lot to my hard drive such as dling animes and movies. My computer went through a couple of virus but she is still ticking.
Stay away from ibm or hitachi hard drives. Western Digital Hard drives are good. I have a western digital 2 gb running windows 98 first edition still chugging. i could plug it in and it would boot right up. currently i am running segate baracuda 120 gb serial ata and it is great and pretty much silent over my fans.
