Building comp, what should i get with 1g??

So yeah, like the title said, i'm in need of a new computer, i had my computer for a while now.. So since i have some money left, thought i build myself a new system. I haven't been keeping myself updated on computer hardware and stuff so thats why i'm asking you guys for help. I'm mostly just gona use it for games and maybe some video editing stuff like that.. I'm thinking of sticking with a AMD cpu and asus brand mobo, and at least a 17 inch flat monitor.. My budget is $1,000, could go over just a little.. Leave other acessories such as keyboard, mouse, speaker out of this.. Thanks..

I think the BEST budget card right now is the new 6800GS, you can pick it up for about $200. If you have another $120 to burn on the card you can get the new 7800GT for around $320.

Since you are going with an AMD setup you are gonna need RAM with a tight timing. Right now newegg.com has the OCZ Platinum ddr2 with 2-2-2-5 timing for about $150 AR.

The sound card if you plan to get one, Creative Lab are blowing out there Audigy 2 card with big rebates to make room for there X-Fi card.
You can pick up the Audigy 2 ZS Platinum for $93 after $100 rebate.

This is the one with the punch out box in the front for audio inputs. You might be able to find it cheaper at a different time. My friend got his for $70 AR at zipzoomfly.com 2 weeks ago.

As far as the hard drives goes and anything else you need, I would just wait until black friday, the friday after thanks giving. Get the cheapest biggest one you can afford.

I did some research and here's what i came up with.. Give me your opinion if this is a good setup or not..

AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Venice
ASUS A8N5X Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4
SAPPHIRE Radeon X800GTO 256MB
OCZ Gold Series 1GB (2 x 512MB) 2-2-2-5
Maxtor DiamondMax 200GB 7200 RPM Serial ATA150
LITE-ON Black ATAPI/E-IDE DVD Burner SHW-1635S
HYUNDAI L90D+ 19" 8ms LCD Monitor
ASPIRE ATX 500W Power Supply

This will cost me about $1,200 with case and other accessories..

For about the same price,(the 6800GS is about $10 more) I would rather get the 6800GS. It is faster and more future proof. The 6800GS supports Pixel & Vertex shader 3.0 while x800gto is 2.0b on the Pixel and 2.0 on the vertex.

Info on the Shader model

Agreed. 6800 > X800.

Everyone has an opinion about hard drive manufacturuors. I know that saying one is better than the other is alot like kissing your sister, it doesn't make sense, they all fail, it's just a matter of time. However the one that you have picked I know for a fact is very loud. I have used 10 of them in the past 3 months and every single one is loud enough to be heard over a relatively quiet pc. I'd suggest something from another drive builder, Seagate is usually good for quiet drives and they offer a 5 year warranty.
