building new my own computer

so i'm wantin to know some few steps

first off what is better to have AMD or Intel

and second off anyone know off the tops of their heads any decent bare-bones kits under $300 (links please?)

hmm..the AMD vs. Intel debate...not gonna go there.
I use AMD. Why do I use AMD, well its a pertty good value for the performance.

you'll never get a good answer on AMD vs. intel. I also like AMD but that's probably because I've been building with them for 4 years now. AMD does have some killer deals if you know which chips are good. The AMD barton 2500 is an awesome sleeper chip. I've got mine clocked to 3200 specs with no increase in voltage at all.

AMD is way cheaper than Intel. it heats up more and you need good cooling performance to have stable system, you can buy good quality heatsink and fan to help that.

AMD all the way - it's cheaper

I love my 2500+ Barton with Nforce2 chipset

The last Intel chip I bought was a Pentium 200 with MMX extensions
