If you put up a price, I'm sure some of us could find you a better deal or a better unit for the same amount or find something a lot better for just a little mo re.

What are you using the PC for? I hope its not gaming, because that 6800xt isnt going to get you anywhere. Also I think its kinda of a waste to buy such a nice cpu (e6700) and pair it up with such crappy video card. Unless if are planning to do NO gaming at all, I would get something better. You can get the 7900GS for about $190 or so or the 7900GTO for about $250. The lowest that I would go would be the 7600GT which could be bought for about $120 AR. It is a lot better then the 6800xt even if you are able to unlock the extra pipes and cost about the same.

much better choice.

..but I agree..put up your budget and we can spec you out a pretty good system.

Also are you into overclocking at all, because Conroe processors overclock VERY well and you can save some money by getting a 6600 or even a 6300 and overclocking it.

i am not sure if i should overclock I would like to make the system very reliable I heard overclocking after certain time can put alot of stress on the system. I dont have much experience with overclocking either. I dont really have a budget though.

If you're not sure about overclocking then I would suggest against it. If it's going to be your only pc then I would suggest against it. I'm sure there are 100's of people who have tried it and had great results but it's the one time you need your pc to work that it'll crap out on you. If you have a laptop or something that is always stable then I would say go for it. Other than that I would avoid overclocking unless you really know what you're doing.

If you are on a budget then you should overclock it to save you money from buying a more expensive cpu!

But then again, you will tend to buy a more expensive better ram, a more expensive better heatsink and a better psu to handle and cool your OC system.

if i were building in that price range today, this is what id get.

LIAN LI PC-60USB B2 Silver Aluminum ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail
original Price: $109.99
Instant Savings: -$20.00
$89.99

another case i like but which theyre currently out of stock of is the GIGABYTE 3D AURORA GZ-FSCA1-ANS Silver Aluminum ATX Full Tower Computer Case - Retail
__________________________________________________ ______________

http://www.allstarshop.com/shop/prod...7BDS6AMQ060B5E
http://www.resellerratings.com/seller1984.html

it edges out the 7900GS in almost everything. however if youre going to run linux the 1950 will give you more problems. if thats the case
eVGA 256-P2-N624-AR GeForce 7900GS 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 KO Video Card - Retail

SeaSonic M12 SS-500HM ATX12V/ EPS12V 500W Power Supply 100 - 240 V UL, CE, CB, TUV, FCC - Retail

worth it. a high quality psu will feed clean power, run cooler & quieter, & use less electricity (more efficient), modular sheathed cables

another cheaper reliable PSU is the fortron blue storm, but it's noisier & the cables cause a little more clutter.
FSP Group (Fortron Source) AX500-A, 2.0 version, 2 SATA, PCI Express, 500W - Retail

Not sure on the Seasonic, but here's a good site for PSU comparisons

If you're not detailed or you're worried you may spread the Arctic Silver too much and short out the CPU or chip, try the Arctic Ceramique instead.

Newegg/Mwave/AllStarShop > Tigerdirect

Tigerdirect shipping costs are a bit high.

As for overclocking, if you choose to do it, make sure you're familiar where the CMOS reset is. After you've at least made sure your computer runs stable for 24 hours, and you don't mind tweaking the BIOS settings. If it gets too hot, and the HSF on the CPU can't handle it, the box should shut down to protect from overheating. As long as you have a decent heatsink on the CPU (even the stock OEM one), then overclocking with bad settings won't harm a thing.

Yeah Johhnyguru's site is great. His review along with several others helped sway me to buy a Thermaltake 750w ToughPower modular PSU. Hasn't arrived yet but I'm stoked....from the reviews it seems to be extremely solid for the money...and enough for a 8800GTX when I get one in a few months.

well the reason i suggested the s12 plus was because the system really doesnt need over 500W; & the new plus model (80-88% efficiency) runs very quiet with stable voltages. even though the extra efficiency doesnt really come into play until there's a large load, it's only $10 more than the older standard S12.

i have the older s12 model in my pc now, and i can attest that its not even audible & never gets hot.

thermaltake has really taken off and made some awesome PSUs too. i guess i was just projecting my pref for silent pcs.

just searched via the seasonic category instead of PSUs and noticed that they have the 550W model too, which is $10 cheaper for some reason.

a review

& yea gotta be careful w/ the arctic silver. directions are on their site.
