i had a Great Quality laptop from Frye's that has a Intel Celeron 1.5Ghz
now, i just got a Dell Latitude w/ a P3 500Mhz for cheap.
i put the 40G-hd from the GQ into the Dell & everythings good; but it's slow on all the programs. since they are both Intel products, can the Dell board handle the Celeron? i'm trying to salvage what i can from the GQ into the Dell

no they're 2 different brands, but some other folks say it's not possible at all. yet, 1 guy said only if the BIOS can handle the boost in speed, & still if the processor isn't soldered to the mobo; some laptops aren't socketed like towers.
It all depends on the BIOS. Since most laptops have their own "company" bios swapping chips isn't possible....if you can find out what kind of chipset your board runs you might be able to flash it with something else and swap a processor in if it's the same socket.
But that's all theoretical, like nathan said...laptops are very finicky when it comes to these things...so I recommend against any of that stuff

Ok. No you can't. The two processors use a different chipset, different memory controller and different memory types. They are based on the same processor architecture however the Celeron M is a generation ahead of the PIIIm.
So no, no you can't use that processor in your Dell laptop as just a drop in replacement. Ever.
With an Acer Aspire 2012WLMi, someone upgraded from 1.5 Banias to 1.8 Dothan so I think it's possible.
Just as long as you make sure the pins and model/series are the same I would think it'd be okay...
I just read your question again, and I think it's possible as far as upgrading from the samelaptop... But cross-laptop, I don't think so.
that's because it's the same chip just a larger l2 cache.
