changing file types

so how do i change file types, like movie file types, for instance Mpeg to an Avi or vice-versa.

Do i need a special program? which one? make sure its free please

i used vegas 5 and render the movie to mpeg or avi...

why do you want to? unless your moving from avi -> something else, otherwise your video quality will decrease.

there are ways to do it w/ http://www.tmpgenc.net/ http://www.divx.com/divx/ and http://gknot.doom9.org/ (or http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...r/default.aspx for windows media)

best bet is to import video as avi, then use windows media 9 if it's going to be a smaller file, or divx if it's going to be a larger file.

you dont need to use them programs, just change the extenstion from .avi to .mpeg

that doesnt work. they're 2 different file formats.

just do a search on google for "avi to mpg" or "blah to blah"

you'll get plenty of hits.
