i have a dell dimension e510, and i bought a seagate 400gig hd, i connected it, started the comp, then it says that there are no storage devices, then when i unplug it, it reads the other harddrive. any idea how i can make it read both drives?
Is it an internal hard drive?
-If it is an internal hard drive is it SATA cable drive or PATA(IDE) drive?
SATA cable is just ONE cable not wider than half inch and flat, kinda looks like a USB cable.
PATA(IDE) are ususally the gray flat able about 4 inch wide.
I am guessing it is the PATA and you have the jumper on the hard drive set wrong. The jumper are the little pins on the back of the hard drive, you need to set the jumper to "slave" on the new drive and "master" to the old drive where windows is installed.
Does your BIOS see the hard drive?
