Computer freezes when opening movie files

I recently bought a new hard drive. So I loaded the newest: drivers for my video card, version of Windows Media Player, Divx player, DirectX drivers and now I have problems. I didn't try to open video files before I did all this but now when I open ANY video file, in Media Player, Quicktime, Divx Player, etc. my computer freezes and I can't do ANYTHING. What the hell could this be?

Could be a problem with your video card, can you play intense games and such without problems?

Check out windowsupdate.microsoft.com, and make sure you have all of the updates, especially Driver updates.
