computer question... need an answer fast, its about reformatting a HD with Win98 lol

so we have this old comp that sits in the corner of the office that never gets used... so i figured i could use it to put all my pics on so that just in case i get another virus on my main comp then it wouldnt matter cuz id have this extra one with all my important stuff.

so it has windows 98. and i want to reformat it and put windows XP on it. my question is... how do i do this? i know that to just reformat windows 98 and put 98 back on it i gotta make a boot disk and load with the boot disk and do it that way, but what about if i want XP on there instead of 98?

i want to do this tonight so help would be great asap

get a boot disk, when it gives you the options to boot hit Shift F5 for command prompt.

at the A:\ prompt type:

fdisk

at the screen hit yes or whatever, choose option number 4 to view the partition, escape out of that and hit 3 to delete the partition and selecte the appropriate number to delete it (should be #1, then just do what it asks). Exit back to the command prompt (esc, esc, esc..), and type

fdisk /mbr (i do it 3 times just to be sure but once should be enough)

take out the disk, restart, put in the win xp cd and it should boot to that.

how old is this computer though? putting XP on it might not be the brightest of ideas...hit me up on aim if you got any questions.

yeah, what he said. But it should boot windows xp automatically if cd is at boot first unless its a bootleg or something.
