Cooling Duct Mods to your computer.

Has anyone tried the cooling duct mod. Im thinking on trying it , its a cheap kit. Thought it was kinda funny and neat at the same time. Its basically pulling from ricer technology here.

Heres some pics.

More info here: http://www.svc.com/ovcokitbl.html

Im thinking on getting this.

well the fans not only cool the CPU but also cool the other hardware.

i think you're better off getting a lot of fans rather than just specifically cooling the CPU.

ive seen those, thermaltake has one too (though it doesn't pull air from outside the case) i remember hearing that the folds in the soft ducting baffled the air but i dont know how much it would actually affect the cooling as opposed to a smooth duct like the tt.

here's a short take on the tt duct
http://www.bit-tech.net/review/262/

synopsis
before duct idle and load temperatures were 45°C and 49°C
after duct 43°C and 47°C

Here is another cooling duct mod , its made by thermaltake.

I like this design as well. It also looks easier to work with.

I like the fact that the one quiets the sound somewhat and makes almost any fan able to hit the center.

actually, contrary to what people may think, cooling ducts when routed directly from the heatsink to the outside of the case are VERY effective

a lot of people note as much as a 10+ degree drop in temps at idle and under load, since the ambient temp outside of the case is always the better place to get cooler air than the circulated air inside the case

I'd do the mod but I'm too damn lazy and I'm fine with my temps as they are.

am i supposed to be "people"? i never said it didn't work, just that the tt might have better air throughput. yhea ducting works but 10+° C drop being normal isnt so easy to believe. unless it's ducted out to a really cool room or the setup before had little or no case fans and/or a not great heatsink/fan setup/cluttered box. the tt should get outside air if there's a door/window fan in the vicinity. im running 6 fans in my tower(including my 2 psus) and my case temps are the same as the ambient air (72°).

the drop isn't just because of the possibly cooler air so much as the elimination of the dead zone. here's a pic of some guy's SLK-900u that had a 92mm tornado mounted up, that's one big @ss deadzone.

this guy got a 9-10° drop w/ an ambient temp(in his house) of 65°F. but since he was using the 92mm tornado he had a bigger dead zone to begin w/ and he was pushing air w/ a tornado through his heatsink afterward so it's not too surprising. it would take a more powerful fan to get the same static pressure as the tt, that's what i was trying to say. how much cooler the outside air is as opposed to inside the case is a factor and how fast/loud a fan you want to use is another. if the case air is much warmer than outside then that might offset the noise factor as the internal air duct would have to work harder to cool, but if there's not much difference then there'll be more effective airflow for the same cfm w/ the tt.

on a sidenote; check out this crazy setup i ran across http://www.villagephotos.com/pubbrow...elected=394940

there're an adapters for 80-92mm fans so same airflow can be made w/ less noise.
