dell laptop [problem
shit now i have a problem with my laptop. it keeps giving me the blue screen error. different erros each time. when i ran windows diag its saying DST start tool failure..
the whole laptop screen is fuzzy with lines going thru it.
it wont even load up windows properly..all the colors are wierd and hardly readable.
do i need to reinstall all existing drivers with the dell disk? or reinstall windows? the problem occurs right when u start up

First thing I would do is try reinstalling the display drivers.
Is it still under warranty?

dell is recommending a new hd!! again
last time had this proble i reinstalled windows and it worked but they told me i needed a new hard drive. but everything worked fine once i reinstalled windows. DST Start tool failure,,they said its automatically a hd problem. i said fuck it its working now. 6 months later
now they said i still need a new hard drive. but its worked fine for 6 months. if i had a hard drive problem wouldnt the problem be un fixable?? why would it work fine for 6 months and act up again?

dont' know what the problem is but Dell tech support sucks. I had a booting problem with my laptop and i told them it's the mobo. they sent me a new hard drive instead and a freaking refurbished one at that. the hard drive didn't even freaking work. after 3 weeks of telling them what the problem is, i finally got to ship the laptop in.
so my suggestion to you is try to send it in. get them to send you the box and let the in house technician look at it.
i got my laptop back within a week. the tech said the problem was the mobo.
if you ever buy another dell laptop, buy it from their business division so you won't have to deal with indian tech support.

when running diag it says i have a DTC start tool failure. i did a search online and everyone says thats a hd problem. so in that case im installing my hard drive now that i bought. how does it work? do i just put the new drive in and reinstall windows? or do i have to do some bios shit? my western digital came with no instructions

this came with no instructions or cd?
i have the drive in but not detecting anything
do i need to use my dell drivers cd or windows xp cd? or what do i do?

well i downloaded some driver software to install from dos since i have no OS right now.
its asking me three things
select the drive u will phsically attach ur new hard drive to
1. existing motherboard controller
2. add on EIDE card already install in ur computer
3. add on EIDE controller card that will be in stall in ur computer

now i got it all working...its reconizing the hard drive and it passed DST check
now its a new error...bad_pool_caller

Wow.
Yes, BSOD are sometimes hardware errors... I freaking hate them!
All my harddrives that I purchased never came with a CD or driver. All I had to do was plug and play. This should go with the same as laptop. My aunt had her VAIO b0rk, and gave me the whole laptop to dismantle for fun--so I took the HD and ram  . Plug & play, still works.

ok i figured it all out...dell was right my hd was bad.
the reason the new one didnt work is because i didnt install it right so it looked like it was having the same problems as before.
the new hd didnt come with anything cept a piece of paper that says go to a professional. i guess what u have to do is download the sofeware for the hd before i install windows. so i had to download and install the drive first...den install my OS.
took me a couple hours and a process of elimination to figure it all out. now its fine.

i guess the process goes like this
1. install hd
2. download the software from another cpu
3. run the software thru a floppy disk
4. follow procedure.
5 hd is installed
6. den in stall OS
see i thought all u do is plug the hd in and install OS
its just gay how they dont give any info or instructions. it has large letters on box for professional help.
shit not everyone wants to pay for that crap

Well it's the motherboard that would require you to install drivers. Normally hard drives are plug and play. So Dell must have a funky BIOS on their lappies.
