The best camera for the money at $300 is the Nikon Coolpix 2500. It's the only one in that price range that comes with a rechargeable Li-ion battery, takes great pictures and it's easy to use.
I sell out of these as soon as they come into the store. The Canon S200 is good as well but it costs $50 more than the 2500 and has less zoom. The Canon A40 is a good one as well, same price as the 2500 except it usues AA batteries (which don't last very long).
Go with the 2500 if you want your money's worth.

I have the Canon PowerShot S30 with 3.2 megapixels and it was well worth the 350 bucks I invested actually sells for 450 bucks but got it through Ebay...I cant stop using this thing...It has great image quality, a 3x zoom lens, and is not bulky or heavy and comes with 16 MB of Compact Flash memory which is upgradeable.
Derfinitely spend a little more money and get this digital camera
