Dual CPU Motherboard

Does any one know where i can buy a motherboard that is dual processor and can handle 2/2.5Ghz or higher i want to build a comp. and i cant find any for sale that can go that fast any one have a site that might have one?

what kind of $ are you looking to spend and what type of cpus are you looking for?

yea, ive wondered about that too. most of the dual proc mobos ive seen only can handle lower end processors..pointless today.

i want something that has that can handle at least 2 AMD XP 2600's..and has the basics like 8x agp and usb 2.0..5 or 6 pci's..support for dual ram..

your probably thinking of athlon MP not XP.

why are you looking for dual?; just wondering.

if money's really no object check out apples Dual G5 towers. they are fast.

otherwise sounds like your looking for opteron or xenon. athlon MP is probably your best value though.

btw you dont really need to look for something above 2.5GHz. speed is relative to efficiency. that's why amd chips like the XP series for example are labled differently then their speed, so they're comparable to intels relative performace although intels speed is faster. http://www.anandtech.com/IT/showdoc.html?i=1935&p=9

that's not necessarily true. multiple cpus are used for alot besides servers. anything that has the ability to take advantage of symetric multi processing; graphic/3D design, matematica, physics modeling, chemical modeling, etc.. basically anything that can see a a performance boost or run smoother multi threaded w/smp. apple's dual G5 powermacs are also, for a large part, optimized for it.

for things like gaming, the net, office work, yhea not going to see a huge difference. would be better off speding that extra $ towards a high end vid. card and a ton of ram.

Someone a while ago was trying to rip someone off with a Dual Processor PII server with a fired power supply (from unknown causes) and does not know if it still works because it was given to him with the blown power supply.

Maybe you want to hit him up!!!
