With my new computer I'm getting a GeForce4 Ti 4600 with the dual monitor deal. How does that work? Does it just extend your desktop across both? If I wanted to play cs on one and surf the internet on the other, is that possible? Thanks guys!
When you play a game it switches to one screen only. there really are no games that support dual monitor. and you wouldn't be able to surf either, because the video card switches to it's 3D accelerated mode, and it won't do regular windows mode at the same time. plus your computer would REALLY slow down, and your game performance as well, even if it was possible, because it would run all windows apps, and the game at the same time.

There's an article in Tom's Hardware site where they tested the new Matrox against Geforce4 and Radeon. The Matrox pretty much sucked in every category. The only good thing about the Matrox is the triple monitor feature.
I'm currently running a dual monitor setup, although I'm using 2 video cards. Anyway, you can surf the net and play game at the same time, BUT once you click off the screen from a game to a site, you'll switch windows. Meaning that your game will minimize like a regular window. Some games like Dark Age of Camelot would just close if you were to click off screen (on 2nd monitor). When I play warcraft 3 or Neverwinter Nights, I usually pause the game if I wanted to go look for stuff online. Then I'd surf on the net on my second monitor while my game is on pause.
well if all you want to do is play cs, then it's fast enough, 46% slower on average than ti4600(which is what i am currently running) two cards is a good idea, keep the agp for gaming and spare cheap pci card for browsing
I use one video card for each monitor. It works great. Games on the left (AGP) monitor, and the duals really help for research (when you have to have encyclopedia/web windows open all over), video editing, or even running AIM on one monitor and surfing SHO on the other.
I am very new to computer hardware and stuff. I am running a 750mhz with 384 megs of ram and need a good video card that won't break the bank. I like playing games like Age of empires and red faction. But I am running windows 2000 and tried to play max payne and I guess the shitty factory savage s3 card isn't good enough so I need a new one. Any suggestions. like websites or good deals where I can find them.
Peace

I recommend Geforce3, they're more than enough to handle most of the games out right now. Plus they're cheap, I say anywhere between $100 to $250.
thanks bro, I will look into them. I have heard of them. But never really looked into them.
Thanks.
Peace
