was looking into getting a dvd camcorder, but would like to see if any of you guys have any opinions on any...i was looking into sony - seen some good deals off of ebay...but really i'm looking for quality, ease of operation, and i'm not really looking into putting vids on my computer, as long as it takes dvd-r's i'm happy! so if any of you guys own one, or seen one let me know!

don't get one of those dvd camcorders, they aren't that great, aren't too compatible, ect.
you are better of getting a good sony minidv camcorder.
advantage of a DVD camcorder
-you dont have to convert into DVD because it records onto it.
-you are cool because your camcorder records to dvd
Disadvantage
-A lot more expensive about $250+ more than the same camcorder that records on miniDV
-only records 30-45 minute
-the dvd+/-R disc can only be used ONCE
-the dvd+/-RW disc are more expensive than miniDV
thats all that I can think of right now
but yea, I wouldnt get one because mainly the price.

well the main thing is the price. They are so damn expensive when you can get a mini dv camcorder for a lot cheaper, and it does the same job. Wait another year or so before that price goes down, and then people are gonna start buyin em. But for now, a mini dv is your best bet. Good luck with whatever you decide on.
No particial model but Canon are always a good choice.
Here is a little tip, most $300 and cheaper miniDV camcorder are pretty much the same just different optical zoom and have diffferent "digital" useless junk filter/feature. Most camera around that price range will do about the same under good lighting. Dont pay attetion to digital zoom, try to get atleast 16x or more on the optical zoom. The LED or what ever type of light they have on front of the camera wont bright up the whole room as some people think that it will. I dont care how what the res. the on still picture part is it will still never compair to a cheap $100 digital still camera when you try to print it, it will look like crap..(unless if the camera has 2 different lens one for video and one for still pics)
Some camera will do better than others under low light and extreme low light some camera will do better than other. If you plan to do a lot of recordering at night or under low light I suggest you do some research before you buy. Other than that, good luck

for a consumer model minidv camcorder, go for a Canon or a Sony.
Don't bother with anything else, the other companies aren't that good or decent.
I have a small Sony HC-20 i really like, that i use for all around use, but i use a Sony VX1000 as my pro camera.
Go to www.cnet.com to get reviews on camcorders, you don't have to subscribe. And only go for a minidv camcarder, don't bother with all those other formats. Minidv will still be the standard and best format until camcorders come out with HD's in them.
