DVD Drive Probs.

Hey i have a 4 year old Sony Viao K Series. Its a great laptop with 3.9gigahertz processor and 1 gig of ram and all that, but at first the dvd drive worked like magic, now 4 years later it won't read new dvd's or even some haji (im currently in iraq) dvd's. When i went home the guys at circuit city looked at it (firedog) and they said that there is nothing wrong with the drive or the drivers as i update as frequently as i can. They said it has something to do with how fast the new dvd's spin as compared to the old ones. Help this sucks as i can't watch any movies and it sucks being in iraq with no movies. Thanks guys, and please don't burn me to much as i am not computer savy. Thanx

New DVDs spinning faster? Ehh? that's news to me.

I would think the drive has failed. Try replacing it or get an external drive.

I know what you are saying but all older dvd's and games and older cd's work just fine on here. People are trying to tell me its a region issue but brand new dvds from the states won't play while older dvd's from the states will play just fine. its freakin weird, and i thought it needed a driver update but its as up to date as it can go.

Try using AnyDVD by Slysoft...it removes the region codes.

try and play the dvd's on one of ur friends computers, try and get them kinda the same age as ur computer, if it works on ur friends computer then its ur drive and you might need a new one

i dont think its something with the speed or region codes if you can play other dvd's

ur computer isnt that old to be having "spinning faster" issues
