I just installed a DVD drive onto my computer, Windows says its running fine but it wont read CD's or DVD's. I dont hear the CD spinning inside the drive, the light just blinks. My computer did not come with a DVD drive from the factory. Any ideas why the CD's wont run?

I have a cd-r set to slave, Shouldnt the dvd drive be plug and play since my old cd-drive was the master. Whats the jumper changes?

What will determine if it's PnP is the OS not the drive. You might want to set the cd-r as master and the dvd as slave and try it that way. Downloading drivers from the manufacture’s website could solve your problem, but could also cause another problem if the drivers are not certified by Microsoft. I would enable driver signing before attempting to download any drivers so that you don't have any hardware conflicts.
i have that problem too, but its my dvd drive on my laptop. i can still watch movies, but i put a dvd in, and normally it detects what kind of disc i put in the drive, but it doesn't anymore. when i do start my winDVD, it can stilil play dvds, but doesn't read the dvd-rom. i'm frustrated.

could be a software problem, not sure what you mean by it not reading dvd-roms but it still being able to play dvds, what kind of disks are you trying to play?burned dvd disks or actual dvd movies?also try powerdvd,I think thats the name of it,it comes almost standard now when someone buys a dvd drive
