I just drag that window all the way to the bottom and keep on using it. Just don't hit the ok button It still works. I know it's not the smartest thing to do but oh well, I'm just lazy like that.

if internet explorer's got problems use Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer intead. WU just checks against the registry, plus if your IE has problems you might not get the updates fully/right.

go mozilla http://www.mozilla.org/

http://www.mozilla.org/releases/stable.html
most stable

mozilla is also alot more secure and less prone to web attacks.
