Should i get a laptop?
I don't really need a laptop, but i kind of want one for the convenience of it. I would probably just use it at work or if i ever travel, i'll have something to mess around with. I don't know.
Has anyone regret purchasing a laptop?
Keep in mind i already have a desktop.

when i got my notebook i got rid of my desktop.. i mean i still have 2 external drives, a usb hub, 5.1 speakers, & my tv to plug it into, but i'd much rather have the convenience of my laptop. i was also working offshore up until last month & it was great to watch movies in the rack & surf in my spare time.

I get one, but i say get a mac if your not into gaming with it because its light and portable and you can get a decent one for a good price. I have a desktop that i gave to my dad and I bought a laptop for me due to school. Also gaming and yea once you go wireless and can seem to make yourself go back. The freedom of wireless is what i enjoy and I gave my old desktop a wireless card so I dont have to run a cable across the house...

well depending on what you want to do, if u want to do pure gaming, or video editing then i would go with a PC just because they are more powerful, but if u want something that you can carry around for work or constantly need a computer on the go then get a laptop, yes the freedom of wireless is amazing, nothing beats that. i would also go for a windows and not mac, mac usally a lot more expensive, but ive gone over the windows vs. mac, and its all about preference in my opinion

I'm gonna probably just do whatever with it. I'd probably game with a little, do random bullshit with it. Surf the web most of the time at work or just mess around with it. I think imma get one just to have one. It won't replace my desktop since i update my hardware on my desktop since i game a lot on it.
But the wireless part is pretty cool i guess. I think i'll just get one just so i can walk around the house with it.
Thanks guys

I'm going to have to disagree with that, Macs are WAY overpriced. The cheapest Macbook comes with a 13" screen and cost $1100. Heck, if you want a 15" model they start at $2000.

yea except mac's need wayyy less long term attention, like they dont really get virus's...ive had my mac g4 desktop for bout 5 years now and ive never had a problem with it...my brother and his windows pc next to me is slow as hell and hes constantly doing virus checks and hat not...so yes macs are expensive but if your into photoshop, music editing, video editing and all that fun stuff and dont wana deal with slowwww windows its worth paying a little more, i mean come on it cant be denied...everybody here knows at least one person that their "computer is slow as hell" ....youll never hear a person with a mac say that. i say if you got the money get a mac its differnet but youll end up loving it, if you dont got that money then get a PC...jus my opinion.

Of course, I could tell you how I've had a PC for 12 years (Win 95 era) and I've never had a virus or any serious problems. My parents have a Dell laptop for 5 years and it runs just as good now as when it was new.
I'll admit, PCs have their share of problems (Win ME and Vista come to mind), but the Mac OS isn't without its share of problems, just check out Mac OS X and iPod Troubleshooting, Support, and Help - MacFixIt for an example of that.
Anyways, I don't want to start a PC/Mac war here. I'm just saying they both use the same basic hardware and IMO Macs are overpriced for the hardware you get.

I just recently got a notebook off newegg.com.
Asus F7Kr and the only complaint I have with it is that it's got Vista Pre-installed with only 1 GB of ram. Vista really isn't as bad as many keep making it out to be but, I am anxiously awaiting some bug fixes. Of course... I don't do too much with the notebook. Half-life 2, C&C3 and web browsing has been about it so far and the only problem I have is the lack of free RAM.
As far as getting a notebook as a second machine... If you've got the money for it, it's a nice luxury. The only real bitch you run into is battery life but, get a better-than-stock battery and you're set.
If you're still on the fence about it, take a look at what Costco has to offer. If you're dissatisfied with the product within 90 days, return it for a full refund. (reformat first if you have any personal/important info, of course)
Edit... replaced all references to 'laptop' with 'notebook'. You will burn your junk if you sit the thing on your lap. Be safe... get a board or something for your lap.
