I thought that also, so I went through and made sure they were what I thought they should be, then I call their tech support line. Talked to the first level guy who ran through a ton of crap, then he transfers me to 2nd level and we run through a couple more things before he says I need to reinstall IE. I then try to reinstall IE and it won't run the to completion because it wants to DL new updates, I say no to that message and the setup ends.

if u can atleast connect through msn, or icq... i say just have ur friend transfer over a newer IE through that and install it
go into tools, internet options, connections, lan settings at the bottom and make sure your browser hasn't got any of the option ticked like proxy etc... that should do it mate :-)
Finally figured it out, apparently my modem wasn't synced with the server yet. :-/
you would think they would set stuff up before installing it and it not working. argh
Anyway the server finally picked up my modem at 2:10pm est according to the tech I was talking to. Too bad I'm at work now and can't test it, wasted a whole morning trying to figure out a problem that I had no control over.

hmm, did you miss my last post? My modem did not appear on their network till 2:10, that was the problem the dumb installation tech didn't activate it.

well I get home last night and guess what, still not connection to website, email, or IM applications. So I call them this morning and after an hour on the phone they say it's my OS, I'm running 98 and it's never had a problem. Basicly they can ping my modem and I can ping websites in MS DOS, but can't view them in windows. So I guess it's puter shopping for me this weekend, here's the specs I'm considering give your opinions.
ADM athlon XP 2.1
256+ MB of DDR memory
GF2 or GF3 64mb video card
Sound Blaster 128 sound board
biostar mother board

How is your modem connnected to your computer. USB or ethernet connection. If its Ethernet then your computer should load the settings on its own. Is the cable light on blinking or solid, if its solid then something defenetly wrong with ur settings. If its blinking rapidly is either they are not sending the right signal to your home, or the tech did not remove the filter outside and the modem does not SYNC. If your light is solid try downloading internet explorer latest tools to version 6.0 and you should be all set. By the way who is your provider.

the power, lan and cable lights are all solid, the receive light blinks every 10 seconds or so. The modem is connected from the modem to a linksys box then to a usb port. Can't connect so I can't give a newer version of IE. :-/
