of course a bad o2 sensor would cause rich/lean problems, but i'd still stick with what i said. the computer will just set the fuel from what it sees the o2 sensor signal. it won't cause the misfire like you said. therefore, the next step is to start with things that CAN cause the problem. you can't just say replace the distributor without testing it, it's a $300 part (oe)
for instance, a stuck open egr can cause the o2 sensor to 'act bad' when it's really good.
the icm(inside the distributor) and the ign. coil(inside the distributor) ARE replacable, so replacing the distributor with a new one with these parts may fix it, but so will replacing the one bad part, if it is one of these two parts.
