broken timing belt

I got hit in the front by a Ford F250 ,I tried to start the car(90 CRX /B16) after to move it from the road .It turned over for about 5 seconds but would not start, after inspection I noticed he put his front tow hook thru the valve cover and jerked the drivers side motor mount out of its holes and the timing belt is broken .Have I done more damage turning the engine with the belt broken? Please help.

If you turned it over with the belt broken, then possibele that you bent a valve. No way to know without either removing the cam and doing a leakdown test or taking the head off.

If you don't mind me asking: how'd he hit you in the front? I ask because when I had my Crx some dude in a big truck backed into me at a stop light. Luckily I got on my horn early and he didn't do much more than scratch the bumper.

I was pullin out of a parking lot into the center turn lane ,the west bound travel lane was backed up at the stop light .The center lane was for turning into and out of the side businesses .This guy decided that instead of waiting for the light to turn and wait till the west bound lane turned into the turn lane at the intersection he would jump out of line ,boogie 1500 feet up the turn lane to avoid waiting and hit me in the left front corner of my CRX with the right front corner of his F250

I was going to go left and the big truck that let me through the west bound lane was so big and I was in the smallest car on earth , looking at the traffic coming from my right ,who I was going to merge with when I pulled ,I never even saw the idiot coming ,as he wasnt suppose to be there.

My reaction: (1) Jaw dropped. (2) Stopped breathing. (3) Sigh. (4) Eyes teared up.

I'm sorry to hear that. Hopefully the alignment angles are okay.

Same reaction I had only it started with WTF,I had just filled the tank($40.00) and realized when I reset the tripodometer that I had 268 mile to go to hit 300k,would do it on this tank ,this is how far I got from the pumps.it didnt do any damage to the suspension or frame mostly just the tow hook thru the hood and headlight into the valve cover .So hood ,fender ,radiator and support ,valve cover and cam plate ,motor mount yanked out of block, headlight(blackhousing). The bumper cover isnt even damaged ,his truck was so high and me so low ,just went thru the hood.

Have you dealt with the insurance companies yet? I'm curious to see how it works out. Get your receipts ready.

Now here is the part that really sucks.Even though he was traveling illegally in the turn lane (not allowed to travel more than 300 ft in a turn lane) the cop didnt see it so no foul.Cop said he could be going 100mph in that lane and as long as he is ESTABLISHED in the lane I have to yield to him ,so he's wrong and I have to cover his damage and my insurance rates go up .I only had liability on mine ,so I have to come out of pocket to repair mine .If I had full coverage ,the insurance would have totalled my car cause there is more damage than a 90 REX is worth ,even though I have about 4 times that in it.So they would total it ,pay me book value then want to keep the wreck. So I'm better of just fixing it myself ,but total lose lose for me on the whole deal and I wasnt even wrong, like I said ,sucks to be me.Most of what I have in it was sponsored so no receipts anyway.I'm just glad it isnt totaled beyond repair ,I can fix the body easily enough ,but most of the expense will be in fixing or replacing the motor.I will have to go through the PITA of pulling everything in the engine bay, looks like time for LS to go in.

Actually, if they total it, you can buy it back. This happened when my first rex si got totaled. A lady rear-ended me on the highway. An insurance inspector (job title?) deemed it a total loss and gave me nearly full blue book value. I then, for a fee of less than two hundred dollars, purchased the (technically) heap of metal from them. I did this because otherwise I would have lost my suspension, intake, etc. It's a weird rule, but I'm pretty sure they have to sell it back to you if you want it. But that was a few years ago when you could get enough money from KBB that you could buy another in good shape.

Again, as long as the alignment is okay it's not a total loss.

Edit: I'm in MD though, so insurance companies might have different policies in other states.

You are right ,but the bottom line is the differance in full coverage over liability would have cost me more than the wreck is going to cost me ,down side is I could have paid more over time than what I have to come up with now all at one time ,know what I mean.Liability on this car was only $184.56 a year.KBB says car is worth $1360.00 less the probably $200 buy back +$1160.00,before the wreck I wouldnt take less than 5k for it.

If they total it, just buy it back for the salvage value (a couple hundred bucks, they'll just deduct it from the check they give you) and either repair it yourself (but, it will be pretty worthless and you'll likely only be able to get liability on a salvage titled vehicle) or part it out for a lot more than if the insurance just sends it to the junkyard.
