I have just come across this problem while putting my H23a1 back together. I had cracked my original head and bought another off ebay to replace it. It was only after taking it to the machine shop that i realized that the original and new head had different model #'s. the machinist had said the head was warped but shaved it to the same height as the original (the original had been shaved by the previous owner so says the machinist) i also had a valve job done using the original head's valves. all components fit and what not. But after i get it torqued down on the block i go to stick the distributor in, and low and behold it does not line up with end of the exhaust cam . if i was to make the the fork end of the dizzy fit in, it sits in the head crooked. my first question is.. Are the P14a & P14b heads identical, and can you swap distributors between the two.The original head was a P14b. Second, could it just be an extremely warped head/cam thats causing the problem?
EDIT Dizzy somehow turned 180. i had mis marked when i took it out. All is well. Smarts > ME
