do ITB's use air filters?
yeah.. i really have no clue.In every picture ive seen it looks like the air just gets sucked into the combustion chamber without going through any filter? I looked on Todaracing.com and it doesnt manke things any clearer. Yes I also serched for it on this forum with no luck. Can somebody please answer this question? Thanks a lot.
Also ill jsut throw in this question...On turbocharged cars with an intercooler..is there a chance (if its raining hard) that water can get sucked into your intercooler and make its way into the combustion chamber?
Thanks for your help.

The turbo, if running without a filter could suck up water, but the intercooler wouldn't suck in any water unless there was a crack in it, and even in that case boost would leak out of the crack and water wouldn't be able to get in. I can see what you are asking, and the intercooler is sealed except for the inlet/outlet tubes.

You don't *HAVE* to run filters, but you really should unless you can afford to tear the engine down regularly for inspection/rebuilds.

We dont run filters on our school's FSAE cars, but we can inspect and make sure there arent rocks and whatnot on the driving surface that will get in there. If there is a doubt, we slap the filter on. I would never street a car without an air filter.

Id make a sick ass box for them with a big K&N flat filter and have a scoop in the hood like a wrx which brings air right into the box thru the filter. That would be tight. The way it would sit with the ITB's horisontaly with the front of the car the scoop would be perfect. And it would be just like a cold air intake but for ITB's as the air would be coming directly from outside into the filterbox and not the hot air under the hood.
