Extra part: pilot bushing...

I just finished installing my stage 4 Competition Clutch last night. It tested great and I'm very happy with it. As I'm cleaning up I notice a small, seemingly insignificant ring on my tool box: the pilot bushing...From what I've researched so far, this bushing guides the transmission input shaft into the crank. It's very small and thin, maybe just greater than 1mm thick, ~24mm in diameter. How important is this part? I've heard everything from "catastrophic transmission failure" to "it's no big deal." Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If there is no pilot bushing on the crank/flywheel then you might be looking at some tranny problems..if the old one is still in there..you're fine.
