gsr head and tranny(what block?)

well i got the head and tranny..all i need is the block...and if my one friend doesnt' come threw i got another that is gonna give me a b16a block bored out with ctr or itr pistons...now if i have to end up gettin the b16a block...is it gonna have any problems or will it be wack cause of teh longer gear ratios of the gsr tranny?

I think it's a great combo. Gsr head makes high compression. But I don't think you can use ctr or itr pistons if the block is bored. The pistons are 81mm and I don't think will work if the bore is to big. But correct me if I'm wrong. I'm just making sure you don't get ripped off. Also you won't have problems with the gsr tranny. Hope this helps

CTR pistons come in overbore sizes from what i've read.

alot of people go with the CTR pistons oversized when doing a cheaper N/A setup.

there's nothing wrong with using the B16A block with B18C1 head and tranny. the gears are a bit longer but not that bad.
with a stock B16A block and the GSR head you'll get 10.4:1 C/R, almost as high as an ITR block. if you use the CTR pistons in the B16A block with the GSR head you'll get a bit over 11:1 C/R. using the ITR pistons in the B16A block with the GSR head will yield only 9.9:1 C/R which is even lower than the stock B16A pistons.

throw some CTR/ITR cams in there with the higher C/R and the motor setup will be good.

BTW i have 2 1st Gen. B16A blocks for sale, bone stock. one has a failed oil pump and the other is fine. both still assembled yet. selling locally though.

Don't forget that if you use the B16A block, JDM ITR pistons, GSR head, and stock head gasket you'll get a C/R of 10.4:1. But if you use a thin head gasket (1 layer) with the same options as listed instead of a stock (3 layer) head gasket you'll get a C/R of 11:1.

For a good calculator on this subject go to:

Its sweet! You can play around with the block bore, stroke, etc.

you can use less layers on the HG but make sure you don't go too thin depending on what cams you use. if the cams are more aggressive than make sure there is enough clearance and piston relief for the valves. also when you change HG thicknesses the cam timing will be changed so you'll need adjustable cam gears to dial it in correctly.

81mm USDM ITR pistons will yield 9.94:1 C/R

81.5mm USDM ITR pistons will yield 10.03:1 C/R

in the B16A block with B18C1 head and stock 3 layer gasket
