Help! Type of engine on my Honda?

Hello,

Im from Philippines. my brother gave me this honda civic 97 lxi How would i know the type of engine of this car? I've been looking around on the web seems like honda civic with other countries doesnt differ much.

Im planning to hooked up this car (for racing) Please help where im going to start.

Any help is highly appreciated.

look at your engine, where the headers are, then look a little bit left and a little further down. it may be really dirty, so you might need to clean it off with a rag, but there is a metal tab with some engraved letters and numbers. read them. it should say something like D16Y7 or D15xx..maybe B16xx
B=dohc
D=sohc
B16=1.6 liter DOHC
D16=1.6 liter SOHc

The numbers i see in the left side below the headers are:

PH15A
1001542

holy crap it really does say PH15A. well, thats the type of engine you have. 1.5 liter...something. never heard of PH series.

As i said in earlier post.. Im from Philippines. I'll call our local honda dealer about this thing I'll ask them whats the corresponding or equivalent engine on the US market.

its prolly a 1.5 liter d15 equiv. theres no VTEC sel. in the back.
