i want to rebuild my valve train on my jdm h22a

ive been noticing my car has been ticking even after i did my valve adjustment? i dont know what it could be its not too loud? and my friends say my car kinda smokes when i get on it in higher rpm's like a black smoke doesnt look like oil but wat do you think it could be. but so far all i have in mind is valve springs and retainers what all should i do? and im thinking about valves.

go back and make sure your valve adjustment isnt to tight. that WILL make you run rich.
