Need advise 1cm scratch hone entire cylinder?

Hello all, I'm in need of some advice.
I'm in the process of putting on another cylinder head to replace one with bent valves. Well, during the process I found a 1cm vertical scratch on the number 1 cylinder wall. The scratch is very faint and is very hard to see but I CAN barely catch it with my fingernail. I know something needs to be done about this but I'm unsure if I need to rehone the entire cylinder or is there something I can do about the scratch. It does NOT run the entire lenth of the cylinder wall, just 1 cm long about 1 inch down from the top of the block. Any input or advice on what I should do? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
Johnny

Use a hone. You can smooth the cylinder wall without removing much material. This You can use a either types of hone. The hone preferred looks like this -

The other hone looks like this -

It will be ideal to use both types of hone's to fix your problem. Begin with the tripod hone to remove the scratch. Complete the process by making a cross-hatched pattern on the cylinder walls with the ball hone. Do this by honing in an up and down motion.

So would I need to re-ring the piston? Thanks for the replies, I will look for that honing tool. But one more question, how would I be able to keep the hone straight? A drill press?

To be safe since your rebuilding your engine anyway I'd get a new set of rings. Just to be sure they seat properly.

The hone is spring loaded and the heads pivot. It will automatically center itself in the cylinder. Just be sure you don't put the drill or air dremel at too much of an angle while honing. Measure your cylinder before you go out to buy a ball hone. They come in many different sizes. On the package it will tell you what size bore it's used for.
