If you're getting cams...nearly any cams, I'd get the gears too. They'll let you tune the cams for widest powerband. I have Crower 63403 Vtec cams installed, they're fantastic. Changing the settings on the gears makes a night and day difference on these. I would not however spend a fortune on gears. Basically a gear is a gear, so long as it stays set where it's supposed to. I'm using Skunk2 gears...no complaints at all. As to the springs and retainers, they depend on how aggresive the chosen cams are, and how high you intend to rev your engine. The Crowers I have are very agressive and do require stiffer springs and Ti retainers, which I have. I do not know much about the spoon cams, though I suspect they're both excellent and expensive.
