hello , i ve got an i/h/e factory euro ef9b16a1, without a/c or p/s , and i m not planning on installing neither..
my crank pulley has the extra space for th a/c p/s belt, and since the harmonic balancer of the factory pulley isnt affected, would it be harmful if i cut the rest of the pulley in a machine shop, allowing only the alternator belt?? do u think it would harm the balance of my motor?? i decided not to install an unorthodox pulley, for motor balance reasons, lack of shock dampener etc
how much weight could i possibly shave..off the factory pulley?
thanks

I wouldn't cut it. I don't really think that if you remove the extra pulley grooves it would make that much of a difference. If you really want to get rid of them & just have space for the alternator, try buying a Civic Type R crank pulley at www.jdmhondaparts.com
Here is a picture:
I don't know if they still sell them (the picture is not from their site, as I couldn't find the product on their site), but if you email them, I'm sure they will help you out.
hmmm thanks.... so u think the extra grooves arent that heavy... maybe you are right..
i didnt know about the ctr pulley... is it lightened enough to justify the cash??
i ll do some research on that..
but even if i could shave 2lbrs off , eveb from the grooves, i d be happy, it would be 2-3 ponnies i believe

Have it cut, and rebalanced. You will definately notice a differance, and if you pick the right shop it will cost less than an aftermarket pulley.
inlinefour.com does that , you can send them you stock pulley and they will send you a pulley that has had the ac and ps tracks machined off, its kinda pricey through them 100$ i beleive not sure though. Honda motors are internally balanced, having a machine shop remove those tracks will not harm your motor.
ok then, i hope it wont harm my motor, but then whats all the hype about the unorthodox pulley damaging the crank bearings.. its because the ur pulley doesn have the shock dampener??
we ll see

who knows if it really does, i wouldnt say either way because no one can prove it does and no one can prove it doesnt, but i can tell you that the ctr in japan comes with a crank pulley identical (someone suggested you buy one above) to what your talking about doing to yours, machining off the non used tracks. You may not want to risk the unorthodox pulley but the modified stock pulley (assuming the machine shop does good work) is not a risk.
update on this.. i did trim the pulley , but i go to a scale to see homw much it was lightened, but the car feels better from 3-5 k rpm.. when vtec kicks i cant really feel a difference..
but what do u expect for 35 bucks... i dont regret it though at least its safer than with the ur..
