hi we just bought a 94 del sol with 105000 miles with no a/c.Our question is how hard is it to add a/c to this little car? and how much should we expect to pay for this?any and all help would be appreciated,we are in the richmond va area.thanks
It all depends on if somebody in your area is selling an A/C system. They sell for around 200 give or take for your location. Install is pretty simple if you have expericance working on car a/c's
your best bet is to find a del sol in a bone yard and get all the parts needed. You will need the compressor with wiring mounting bracket, tensioner and belt, dryer, condensor, the condensor fan with harness, all the lines that run to and from the inside of the cab, the connecting block at the firewall and then the coil for inside the car. there is also a duct section that will house the coil that will replace the current section between the blower housing and the main duct. You will also need the entire climate cocntrols with the a/c button. Its not too terribly difficult to do but takes some time since the dash will need to be completely removed Also, depending on what engine you have, you may need the crank pulley if there is not an extra rib for the compressor. I would say you may be looking at about $500 in parts and about a day or say of labor. I believe the a/c option was about $1200 when new from the dealer. The a/c option was a dealer installed option, so all parts will bolt up with out major modifications.
Mods: 17"x 7.5" Rims, Nitto Neogen Tires, Energy suspension bushings (engine, suspension and trans) B&M Racing shifter, Antenna block of plate,
as for the button all you need it to pull the cover off where the A/c button would be and it is there. you will need the cover that Says A/C only if you want. if you get anything out of a car in a junk yard make sure the system still has pressure. that way you know the system is still sealed and hopefully there is not much moisture that will have rusted the compresser.
