Lightweight Flywheels

What can you guys tell me? I know they are supposed to make you accelerate faster due to the lower amount of horsepower it takes to spin it. But what else can you tell me? What are some of the good and the bad?

IDK dude...I got a Zex chromemoly one and it's badass!
I love it. BAD: if you have a lot of city...stop and go driving
on a daily basis, it'd be a pain in the ass. That's what autos
where made for.

Because there's less inertia then a heavier flywheel gives you on starting/launching from a dead stop, so stalling's a
problem until you get used to it. I'd prefer an auto anyway
in stop-n'-go traffic, even over stock manuals.

RPMs drop way faster when you are changing gears and such, its a slight learning curve.

dont go too light or yea its a pain and i noticed when i go to the track it takes a little more RPM's to launch without bogging... but yea i would say dont go under 10 lbs unless ur making big power

Nah, no big power. I just want better acceleration and was hoping it would help during autocrosses. Is there a good noticeable difference in acceleration?

Mine's about 11.8lbs., and, yes, you'll notice the difference.

Alright, well cool. I guess now the big question is, is it really worth it if Im going to be doing mostly daily driving, and track driving every once in awhile?

No. For me, it was, since I'm, (eventually), installing
a SC on mine and wanted to "beef" everything else
up first, which included a stronger clutch, so both
were installed at the same time. You'll definitely feel
a difference, though, so it just depends on your
wallet and how passionate you are in adding a
little more "ummph" when you punch it.
Or wait until you need/get a new clutch?
EDIT: BTW...the stock flywheel was 28lbs, (on my scale/as I recall), so....
Go for it...you know you want to!

u really should...and its not really a worth while mod in HP/$

i really hated mine, i had the ACT ??track lite?? i think.. anyway it was the 7-8 pounder, not the streetlite...with the ACT 6 puck in my turbo d16...between the clutch and the flywheel the thing would chatter so bad it would shake the whole front end of the car when u began to engage it (after it warmed up). .the other thing is it can warp (like brake rotors) easier...u also need to shift faster, as the revs will drop between gears much faster..idk..overall i just though it could have been money better spent somewhere else

Yeah, if I even end up putting one in, it probably wont be until I have to replace the clutch. But I actually replaced it about 8 or 9 months ago soooo that pretty much means I wont have to replace it for another 3-4 years and by then ill have a miata. So it kinda looks like Im probably not going to be doing it.
