Ok so I paid 600 euros for an old B16A motor so I have a base to start my full rebuilt. But what I saw was a bit different than I expected. The motor that came, has the code B16B on it, but it has a black valve cover...The thing is I don't know if it is a B16B with just a different valve cover or it is only a B16B block with all (or some) of the internals from the B16A...'Cause I didn't had the luxury of time to open the whole motor up to see the crank and the rods, I opened the head and saw the cams and have a couple pictures of the head I post below for you to tell me if you know if this is a proper B16B head or a B16A one.
I believe this is the head code, it says PR3-1 and in the next window it says HM, the pistons also have the code PR3 on them. It's kinda blurry is from my mobile sorry.
Next there is the numbers 91-11-15-10 I think is the production date...
It also has a two pentagrams, dunno what it means or if other heads have them.
Also some japanese letters can be seen here...
And last here is the intake ports which I know they are ported and polished in the B16B head, but they don't look treated like that here IMO...
Sorry for the bad pics, also tell me anything else you know about this motor and about the things I should know for which of the B16A parts work with this... I know the bore and the piston diameter is the same, but the B16B block is higher than the B16A...How come? is this difference shown in the cylinders also?If yes how do they covered the bigger gap? With longer rods maybe? Thanks a lot guys...
