need help with a rasterization error

okay so heres the thing.

im trying to put a brush in the background of this image so that the brush sits behind the colored part of the girl. like i want the brush to show up in the background but not on her.

heres a screenshot of what i have so far:



every time i try to rasterize the layer, it says i cant because the pixel data for this layer is not directly editable. how can i rasterize this part so i can add the brush in the background? i dont want to have to use the quick mask mode though to select her then invert it to select the background.
