that noise is made by the BOV not the wastegate. the bov is there to exhaust exess preasure in the intake side when the driver lets off the throattle.
the wastegate is on the exhaust side and it controls how much exhaust gas to miss the turbo.

most of the time, people will loop their wastegate back into the downpipe. otherwise, some people run open wastegate and it is loud as hell.

wow that thing is loud, sick video. My friend has a Porsche 951 and that comes from the factory with a divorced wastegate. The pipe feeds around the cat and back into the exhaust before the muffler. He took a motorcycle silencer and had the wastegate dump out the side of the car right behind the front tire. When that car gets on the boost its SUPER loud

Naw, that sound isnt from the BOV. That sound is called compressor surge, its an effect that happens when you arent realesing enough pressure into the atmosphere. Sure, you can hear the compressor surge more when u have a BOV (sometimes). But it still happens even if you dont have one.

no shit its compressor surge. thats what i stated in the 1st post. and if you dont have a big enough BOV for the boost running, then compressor surge will happen. i know which one makes which sound.

Quick question, but how can you hear the compressor surge? I hear the BOV, that's for sure, but I wasn't really under the impression you could HEAR the compressor surge happening. If the motor was getting bad compressor surge often, they would probably want to fix this before the turbo was damaged.

you'll hear the compressor surge from the intake, just like you'll hear the spool.
