well just side jobs. i mean this is what i love. if this goes well, i can make enough money, maybe get a partner, loan, and a real garage. but right now i was thinkin just make some money on the side as i help people out who arent so mechanicly savvy
I live in germantown too. looked into starting a garage. It's hard. Most places in montgomery county don't allow automotive mechanic work and the ones that do are leased. AEM want's $250,000 up front to be an authorized dealer and then another $15,000 every quarter. Even if you buy their parts at wholesale from another dealer you only get 6% off sticker price. And that's just the begining, it's tough, but not impossible.
Are you trying to start a real business? Or just doing bolt-ons in your garage.
playahwitgame, you, (or somebody), needs to
start a chain of "WE INSTALL ANYTHING" stores; I can't
believe the ammount of stores/automotive places that
"don't/won't do that", either because I didn't buy the
parts through them, (adding to their bottom line), or
because it's non-OEM. I have three places now, that
I know of in my area, that'll handle the job, but your
average Joeblow Jiffylube or Goodyear won't touch
aftermarket parts, even quality ones. Stealerships
are even more adamant about this, and this really
bothers me: I'm improving your product with better,
higher quality parts, and you refuse to install them?
WTF???
EDIT: The Honda dealership, (that I bought my two
previous CRX's from), DID agree to install my Denso
Iridium spark plugs on my Delsol, if I signed a
waiver that stated any work was not guarrenteed/covered
under "Honda" . Now, doesn't Denso own, or is
somehow affiliated with NGK? In any case, a plug's a
plug, right? Those Iridium's are a BITCH on the wallet,
though!
i wish, but theres only so much you can do with hand tools and a garage with jack stands. i would love to open my own shop though. i think it would be awesome, and i think i could make it work. basiclly, thats what i want in the future. hope eveything turns out well with that idea.

I think, but I'm not sure, the problem with dealerships not willing to install after market mod's on your car is because they warrantied your car when you bought it with the engine and components originally intended to be under the hood. Once you start modding the engine you pretty much wave bye bye to your warranty. Dealerships make money by giving you a warranty so why would they want to help you void your warranty. Then they would be losing money. Then they lose the possibility of you returning to their dealership for services and purchases. They don't want that, they want your money.
Well, my Sol's a '95, so the warranty's long gone. And I
think I put nothing but quality/better than OEM parts on
my car, so they who refuse are just losing my money.
Must be a legal thing.

I don't think you understand. They didn't warranty your chrome cold air intake, they warrantied that big black plastic box that takes up 10% of your engine bay. So if your censor get's fuq'd, dealerships, typically, won't let their mechanics touch it. They'll put the blame on you, not the factory. Then they'll probably tell you to refer to your warranty. Then again I could be completely wrong and just talking out of my ass, what do I know, I'm just a noob.

Hopefully it does work, let me know your progress with that. Maybe you could help install my turbo in a couple months?

A lot of "n00bs" are very intelligent...I still can't comprehend .
Don't we have a few Honda techs/employees on here
that can give us the "low down"?
And how did you know I had a chrome intake ?
It's an AEM; have to do a review on it.
The idle's kinda' erratic when it gets warm; could be
a vacuum leak somewhere, I guess?

Everyone has a chrome intake. I don't think this thread is in the right forum for Honda techs to come across it. I have an AEM intake, never had problems with the idle though. Thinking of swapping it out for an injen.
