AEM CAI Intake owners: Ever clean the filter?
When I used to have a short stack intake. I used to clean it like every other month or something...basically whenever it got to be pretty dark.
Well with my aem cai (long stack) intake. With the filter being hard to access, I havent changed it once and I figure the cai's get twice as dirty.
With this in mind. Im thinking on going with an aem v2 but they are really exspensive.
How many times have you cleaned your filter.

not too often...some of the larger dirt particles are supposed to actually act as a filter for smaller particles without affecting airflow...with that being said, i think aem recommends every 50,000 miles, less if you live in areas with lots of particulate in the air...but i've never had an intake that long

I usually do it when I rotate my tires, since the plastic fender well on my car got ripped apart by road kill...

Yeah doesnt that normally cause the filter to get really soaked when driving. I had mine removed on my accord....
On my prelude its really hard to get to as well.

i never really had any problems with a drenched filter on my accord. even when it rained. but yeah, i don't usually clean the filter cuz the dirt is actually supposed to help filter....now if the filter is covered w/ mud, then you've got a problem

i have a cp cai and i checked it a few times in the past 2 years and it appeared to be clean. so i realized last week it had been 50k since the install so i took it out and it almost looked as clean as when i installed it, it didn't even bleed out any dirt when i washed it, guess i'll see it again in 50k. :clap

Not really...unless it floods, but when that happens, I'm taking the RX-8. I'm just can't bring myself to buy a new splash guard when there are so many other goodies to buy...if it were a radiator hose or something like that messed up with a high priority purpose, I'd replace that in a heart beat, so don't get me wrong.

i dont think the V2 justify the money its worth. just keep the CAI. there is a great deal of marketing gone into the V2, making everyone think its something new, when in reality its just nothing new at all. the big pipe which uses sound waves to help airflow or whatever have been used by none brand name companies for while now.
when these companies go to test the intake, most just manipulate the numbers. test can be done with open hood, front fan, fan +hood open, fan closed hood..etc. all these can manipulate numbers.
the extra gain on the V2, oppose to the CAI are minimal (if any).
