Now i don't mean to start any fights cause anyone who does their own work on there car i have respect for be it a 50s sled or a computer nerds wet dream with 4 wheels but my style is AMC and all i am gonna have to play with on the streets is you honda guys, hopefully the ones i run into are as competent as the better half of this forum. It's gonna take a few years (cause of funding, i'm poor of course) but i'm working on building an AMC Eagle wagon that'll do 14s (quarter mile). It'll be a riot cause it's a bloody station wagon but trust me, it'll move. AMC 360 motor with a nasty cam performance manifold, 750 holly carb running out shorty headers to x-over duel exaust. Then she'll be linked to a tf 727 to dana 44 rear dana 30 front with (obviously) matching gears of 3.73. The car is gonna be just over 3600 with me sitting in it so she is fat (station wagon remember) but torque and hp should both be above 400 without too much work (no i'm not gonna dyno it, but i'll get slips cause time is the only number that counts). The cool thing about the eagle is it's shift on the fly full time 4wd so i can jump in 4wd and once i have traction i can shift to rwd. even if that idea turns out to suck, it'll still be fun to do 4 wheel burn outs.
Anyway, i'm bothing to post all this antique stuff just so you know where i come from car wise. I've taught myself most of it. I respect those of you who do the modern 4 bangers up right and it's good to keep a handle on the competition. once i get it running i'll be up for some fun in central Pa, i don't do high traffic volume racing cause it's not cool to put other people at risk (even if the risk is them being stupid just cause fast cars are around) but on a nice open street, bleep that 4 banner, and don't get offending if i grin, i mean no disrespect, a gear head is a gear head regardless if his gears are english or metric. (-=
Thats cool, your making the car fast. I respect that, but what does an AMC Eagle look like. Please enlighten me.

Its not just any Honda Accord ex, its a clean ass black accord
Well my ex describes it as "a turtle on roller skates" however, she is my ex so what can you expect (-; Its americas first full time four wheel drive car (eat it suberu) and mine is one of that last 2306 they made (amc got bought by chrysler, amc used to make jeep, the old cj7s and stuff, that was amc and the 4.0 engine is mostly amc design)... but enough on history... www.DesertFish.org is my site...
As to faster than 14s? i agree, i think it will, but i'd rather not talk it up till there is a motor in it to back it up. 14s will be easy to reach, do a little work and i'll be in 12 range to keep up with the svt cobras (and some of your hopped up 0 pound cars) dang, its hard to push 3400 pounds around )=
haha, if you guys liked any amc car it should be the gremlin
Gremlin=Americas first subcompact (april 1 1970)= light weight= RWD= v8 power. Now i know its not too hard to pull 300 hp from a 4 banger, but you put that same effort in a v8 and you'll have some go. Gremlins are known as some of the best drag cars cause they weight nothing like your cars =-P
Ouch, that one hurt =-P... Usualy i only have to deal with amc engine mix ups with muscle car people. No amc ever came with a dodge motor (383) or a stroked 350 (383). Other than a few which used the gm iron duke (151 (2.5l for you metric kids)) all amc cars used amc built and designed engines. Some share the same numbers as other makes but they are very different and NO parts interchange from the engine short block. The biggest engine ever to come stock in a gremlin was 304. AMC's last 2 generations of v8s when like this 290-304-343-360(what i have)-390-401
stock 0-60 in a gremlin with 304 (remember this was mid 70s when the v8 was optioned) was like 8 seconds. all amc blocks are "Mid blocks" and look identical on the outside so you gotta check numbers (or measure them) to know what it is. Anymore amc trivia ya'll "want" to hear?
That wagon is actually really good looking, as goes for the Gremlin, I've heard a lot of bad things about them. They struggle getting up hills cause there is so much weight on the front and little over the rear wheels.

Gave to lil sister. Hope she doesn't wreck it
thanks! Once i get every last bolt off it, she'll be repainted a dark burnt orange top with black running on her lowers.
I've never heard that about the gremlin however AMC gets a bad rap. Some of it is deserved, some isn't (name one company that doesn't have some issues with their cars). Getting up hills the only reason i can think of is most of them had horrid rear ends as far as gears. Example? my eagle stock is 2.35. It's impossible to get it suck in mudd or snow but acceleration/hills aren't always easy. the 3.73 twin grip (amc's name for posi) will help it light up a bit better.
yes, it's illegal in the real world... i've seen it done with an eagle and what i'm building is more extream so it is possible... it's not awd, which i would imagion is much hard to get to lose traction...
psomian, do you think that dana 30 front end is strong enough for 400 hp? never dealt with one in a race situation but have seen plenty blow up under jeeps. seems like all that power at once could destroy a u-joint or break a shaft.
Dana 30 def can not handle 400 hp... but i'm gonna let it try till it goes. Most of the driving will be done with the car in rwd (dana 35 till that goes then buying a dana 44 with twin grip).
