i know ive gone over this a million times...
but i just like to see what everyone says...
i need a car to work on... im bored... i need something to do... my choices are in the poll... i would work on the tsx, but thats my daily driver... and i would work on my g/fs accord (which is my old car) but thats her daily driver... now the 2 cars im thinking about making into projects are an rx7 TII or a 93 civic si
the rx7 cause i love that body style and i want to try a car thats rwd... the only problem being that theyre expensive to maintain
the civic cause ive always loved clean hb's and i would love to own one... the only problem with them is finding one for the right price and not to rusty and too beaten up
what do you think

An old MR@ or Supra is what I would go with. Maybe an early 90's model. But from your two choices, I would go with the Civic. I don't know how abundant the RX-7 aftermarket is for those years.

the aftermarket for all from that year on is pretty big... not as big as the civic.. but enough to get the job done...

im in the same boat as you....i want something to work on but not my daily driver...i seen a 88 rx-7 the other day for a grand....it was pretty beat up though...i say go wit a civic..working on ya girls accord is almost a waste unless you do a h22 swap or turbo her f22...unless you want a turbo to be her DD...

an old foxbody, which i'm sure you've probably already thought about. that's what i did. i have my accord as a daily driver.
i bought a 90 mustang lx 5.0, just to learn. it's definately a lot easier to work on, because the engine bay is a lot larger, and everything is "right there". it's also rewarding when you spend less money on parts and get bigger gains. plus, they're rwd, but not as expensive to main as an rx7.
i got mine, already pretty modified, but running kinda rough. i pulled the codes and found that the voltage in the o2 sensor was jumping from rich/lean, so when i get out of school, i plan on checking through all the sensors. i'm also doing my own transmission swap because the synchro on 1st gear has gone out.
right now, it sits uninsured on my driveway, so i won't have to insure until i'm completeliy done, and my driveway is pretty long so i can testrun it up and down there. i paid under 3k for it. the interior is in really good condition. the paint is still really glossy except a branch fell and SLIGHTLY dented the fender. i just bought this car to learn. spotting a problem and learning how to fix it is just as rewarding as modding your car, plus probably more practical in the future. plus, the value of foxbodies is starting to go up. i think a stock, good condition 93GT goes for around 9-10k now. i dunno, one day they'll be a classic!
anyways, i'm sure there are a lot of ppl on here that know more about the 5.0 then i do, since i'm just starting out. i think of the 5.0 more as an "investment for knowledge" and project car than my speed demon. it's got seat-of-the-pants torque, it was cheap (parts are too), and best of all i can still keep my accord =)

as long as it is the front o2 sensor, you want it to do that, you want rapid changing rich to lean, but if there is a rear sensor doing that, you would have a bad cat

sorry, worded that wrong. i meant that i ran a KOER test twice, and they register something different both times (rich and lean). it's supposed to jump rapidly when you use a voltmeter.

RX7s are badass
RWD, Rotary, Manual and abundant.
The only problem is if the seals go out. That is the only downfall of the engine, but i bet you already know all about this stuff.
I would chose the FC RX7 but for the love of god, go for an N/A car if you want a reliable *s******* rotary vehicle. With proper matenince and understanding of the Wankel rotary, it should run for about as long as a piston based engine.
rx7club.com is a really good forum to join if you buy that FC.
Besides, rotary>civic any day... *flame suit*
