I think my friend got screwed!
Ok heres the deal. My friend has a 93 Teg with a B18A1 Non Vtec. He was talking to this shop that installed his new clutch a little while back. the deal was like this. He was to bring his car with 171K on the stock motor and they were to compleatly tear down and rebuild the motor. It was to include high compression pistons, new rods, rings, bearings, machine work, new head job, GSR transmission...Everything to make his car have 10 to 11:1 compression and was told the new engine will make him keep up with a Type R. The finance deal was he was trading his **Nice** White 17's universal rims with NEW $400 tires, Compleate Zex Nos kit and $900 Cash. Well we get there last night to pick up the car and I was talking to the guy that did the work and he told me they put USED B16 pistons in a B18 block and Used Stock Rods, not even reconditioned! They only Honed the cylinders but did not deck the block(Mind you 171K on the block) and installed new bearings and rings. They did have the head machined and rebuilt but reused the stock springs clips and retainers and a standard 3 angle valve job. Heres the most F'd up part. when we get there I look at the transmission and it looks exactly like the origional transmission EXCEPT where the sticker goes that shows you the model of the transmission, was ripped off and they left the shreds of the sticker on it so its not able to be identified. I talked to the owner who said he got the transmission through a friend in jacksonvill mind you the car went through a compleate tear down and rebuild in less than 4 days. thats pretty fast to get a transmission shipped. when I asked him what he did with the old transmission he said he traded it for the new one. The guy told my friend that the motor should be running 260Psi per cylinder. Well I just did not believe him so when we got the car back I did my own compression test and found 85psi per cylinder. He has to bring the car back to them for tuning after 500 miles. So I think my friend got screwed pretty bad for $1600. I told him he could have had a used B16 Vtec for $1100 and be better off. What do you think. Can you put B16 pistons in a B18? I thought the bore was bigger on the B18? I dont know what to really tell him his options are. I dident want him doing it from day 1 but he did it while I was out of town and now I come back to this!
