I want a muscle car!

I will be moving over to the US very soon.

I have always wanted a muscle car but due to big time fuel (we pay about £4 a gallon over here thats almost $6 ) and insurance prices, it has never really been possible.

I was considering a Mustang, but what else is there that people would recommend performance wise.

I love the sound of a V8 muscle car!!!

Thanks.

When you say "muscle car", what era are you talking about?

Mid-Late 1960's were the baddest American muscle cars ever.
Lots of horse and torque.........especially the big blocks.

Chevy is easiest to find parts, Mopar parts are the toughest to find, and the most expensive.

The "newest" muscle car is the Mustang/camaro/Trans Am....

no, I do not consider the new gto a muscle car just because it has a nice engine....

If you want something new'ish I say get an 00+ Z28/SS Camaro.. best bang for the buck car every made.

When Chuck Norris files his taxes, he sends in a blank return and a picture of himself, crouched and ready to attack. Chuck Norris has never had to pay taxes. This year, however, the IRS sent him back a picture of Jack Bauer wearing his dark sunglasses. The next day, Chuck Norris pled guilty to multiple counts of tax evasion.

You want new you said? you're somewhat limited then. What price range where you looking at?

*$24-26k: 260hp Mustang GT (i'd wait till spring of 2004 and get the new one with 305-310hp)
*$28-29k: 305hp Mustang Mach 1
*33-35k: 395hp Mustang Cobra, 305hp Mercury marauder, or 350hp Pontiac GTO.

Not a muscle/pony car, but a muscle truck: 380hp F-150 Lightning for $33k. Nice alternative if you've got shit to tow/haul, yet still want excellent performance numbers.

Those are pretty much your options when it comes to new muscle/pony v8's.

Generally, people think of muscle cars as being from the 60s/early 70s.

Although technically the new domestics are muscle cars, they arnt really referred to as such.

If you don't know jack about cars I wouldn't recommend buying a 35 year old car, as stuff just happens for no reason on cars that came stock with 454ci engines. Buy a newer camaro/mustang. If you feel comfortable around cars then buy an older model...they look better, smog is not a worry, and you will turn more heads. They're hella easy to work on too...came from a time when cars were simple.

Ok here my take on it. If you want to kick my e-ass after reading this feel free too.

First if you want a "mucle car" you must be refering to the ones of the golden age. That would be pre catalytic converters, aka very early 70's and late 60's. It all depends on how much your willing to spend, and how much time you willing to put into looking at one or re..(damn the word escapes me at the time)... ... (thinking) restoring one (damn I'm slow). Another thing about getting a mucle car is the American car war. Every Ford and Chevy guy now what I'm talking about. I come from a Chevy family except my dad and me. He started with chevys and then moved to fords. I started with fords and moved to honda (lol I'm the "rice burner" in the family).
If you want to find one to go Hemmings website.
*If I were to get one I'd get a mustang with either a 351, or a Cobra Jet engine.

Ok heres part two of my post. I believe todays "mucle cars" are half-bred sports cars. The lack the power and appeal that they used to have. It has been like this every since the 80's and late 70's. I will admit that they are getting better. Especially looking at this next Musang, the C6 vette, the return of the GTO with a v-8 and RWD (unlike the Malibu and gawd help me "SS" Monte Carlo). Not to mention the demise of the Camero.

I'm still waiting for the day honda drops a v8. LOL, I'll stuff it like a turky in my CR-X.

word... cars that ran high 13's at best then run low 13's, to mid 12's now... hell the lamborghini countach only did high 13's in the quarter... the murcielago does mid 11's... not muscle cars, but same principle when it comes to comparing power today to power then.
edit: DAMN nice sig btw 2:
