Legalize JDM
OK, I did a search and found nothing about importing a JDM market car. I think that something was wrong with the search. Any way, I was thinking about this the other day and how this is “our” country and that “We the people” includes you (the person reading this) and me (the pissed off Honda fan).
My point is why can’t you or I bring in a JDM car? I know there is the safety issue, Emission and other stuff, but why should I not be aloud to drive this car? I think that we should be able to bring in JDM market cars.
Clearly Uncle Sam needs his cut of this and so my proposal is to allow importing a car and then make it emissions legal in states where it is tested yearly and also be required to sign a waver saying that you’re aware it might not be as safe as a USDM counter part. Then to make Sam happy just make sure it’s registered and insured accordingly and maybe a Tax for the luxury to have a JDM car.
Does anyone agree with me that this is not far that someone has made rules for you and me that have no idea what we are about?
Does anyone know anything about how to get something like this started?
there are companies that will mak a jdm car legal to drive in the states, but I think it requires about $75k worth or mods and testing and yadayadayada. my boss looked into doing it a few years ago. the car needs to be shipped to several different locations throuhout the country. and because the car isnt legal yet is needs to be shipped in a bonded trailer. which isnt cheap
youd be surprised how popular a lot of things are. the market for sleeper products is huge since most states treat you like a jew in 1943 poland if youre a ricer
You glossed over it yourself. One of the basic responsibilities of government is public safety. By keeping cars not certified for use on public roads, they protect us from products not up to our standards.

Well yes thats true, but my point is that with the waver of understanding the risk we should be aloud to have the cars, I know personally I would take the risk, I mean Forks can kill people, but there is no restriction on them, Power lines can kill people too amd they are in front of many peoples homes. It's just that I feel like I should be aloud to make the risk. The part I say about the emisions is because we all breath the air. Oh well. Maybe I should just move to another place. But I do love my Homeland

Why do people whine about this? What JDM crap would anyone REALLY want? You can legally import ALL the decent engines and fit them into similar USDM bodies. Other than that, they have nothing going for them but RHD... which is a TOTAL FUCKING HAZARD TO EVERYONE ON THE ROAD.

Well I agree with njn63, I agree that the car is not a hazard to anyone, just the people who can't drive, and there are more of them then people who would have A RHD car. But what is wrong with the headlights? are they too bright or just too low?
What would it take to get a DC2 Type R here and lagit to be a daily driver. I am sure you could just buy a junked Teg and switch the VIN, but that could be pricey if busted.
Also has anyone seen the Sport Compact car issue with the 2yr old Type R for about 8 grand? My local Acura Dealer sold a Yellow Type R with 36K on it for $26,000. thats crazy!!!

Well, I guess I am alone in my comprehension of this matter.
Biggest problem: The distance between driver POV and road centerline makes a big difference in line of sight (especially on a curvy 2 lane), and therefore time available for reaction. I don't give two shits who is driving. There are reasons that both USDM and JDM cars have the driver's seat near the lane center.
And, yes, the headlights ARE misaligned for our roads, blinding oncoming traffic.
^ Have you ever driven a RHD car in the US? I have and it's not a picnic. I gotta go with N123 with this one. Public safety is protecting not only people from harming themselves or their own property, but also others from them as well.
i say fuck the government. lets smuggle cars into the u.s.
im down, be a really good business

Well the Idea of smuggeling a car in is nice and all. I would hardly call that worth my time or chance of getting busted. plus I named the topic "LEGALIZED JDM" for a perpose. I would consider just doing a conversion to RHD, front end, suspention, Interior, and engine. oh screw it I will just swap VIN's...wait the yearly inspection will run a probe in my OBD2 plug. Well I guess I should just move to Japan, or Ohio. they have no restrictions and it's only an hour from my house.
